Traveler reviews
“Anderson was our tour guide, the experience starts with him. What a great guy, very knowledgeable, very friendly and fluently communicated with us in English (something you will appreciate). The tour itself was great, very refreshing and shows the TRUE Dominican life. ”
“Our guide, Robinson, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the different parts of the trip and share information about the places we visited. The first stop was a horseback ride, which was very short — around 10–15 minutes riding in a circle around the field at the ranch. The staff there were very friendly and helpful. Next, Robinson took us to the basilica in Higuey, where he explained its history, including the painting inside the church. If you’re planning this trip, be aware that you need to pay an additional $1 entry fee, despite the trip description stating that this was included in the price. You also need to cover your shoulders and legs, although cover-ups are available at the entrance. Unfortunately, the next stop, described as a “traditional market” to see “Fresh tropical fruits and local products” was the most disappointing part of the trip. It wasn’t what we expected from the description. The craft market was just a corner souvenir shop (that was it) Instead of a fruit market, it was a traditional local market with meat and some fruit - not that you would want to buy or eat any. There was plenty of freshly butchered meat and seafood in poor condition. Live chickens and cockerels were also being sold in boxes on the floor. The conditions were unpleasant, with strong unpleasant foul smells and the floor was covered in dirty brown sludge water. If you’re wearing flip-flops, be prepared for your feet and footwear to get filthy! I actually had to use our bottled water to wash my feet and flip-flops afterwards. This stop really wasn’t for us, and we felt the description of a craft and fruit market were misleading. Afterwards, we enjoyed a traditional Dominican buffet lunch, which was nice and offered a good variety of food. The description of a visit to the Anamulla River was also at this location. It is just a small stream at the bottom of a hill where you go to eat. Following the lunch we visited a Cigar factory. If Cigars are your thing you will enjoy this stop. You get a free welcome cigar to smoke as you walk around. You get the opportunity to roll your own cigar and then visit the store for souvenirs/cigars etc. The final stop was Macao Beach, where we had around 30 minutes to enjoy the lovely soft sand and clear water. It was a beautiful beach, although we would have happily spent longer there. One important thing to mention is the overall duration. The trip was advertised as lasting four hours, but we were picked up from Cap Cana at 7:00 am and didn’t return until 3:50 pm — a total of 8 hours and 50 minutes. This is a significant difference from the advertised duration and something potential customers should be aware of when booking depending on your hotel location. Overall, Robinson was a fantastic guide and a real credit to the tour. The basilica, Dominican lunch and Macao Beach were enjoyable, but the very short horseback ride, disappointing market visit and much longer-than-advertised duration took away from the experience. With a more accurately described market stop and clearer information about the timings and additional entry fee, the trip could be much better.”
“We really like the horseback riding and the my spouse enjoyed the cigar making. Robinson was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. ”
“Darwin was amazing. We got to see the real DR outside of the resort. Darwin was knowledgable, helpful and we had an amazing day.”
“Other than 1.5 hour late start all the experiences expectations were met especially the horse riding ”
