“Parts of the trip were really just trying to extract more dollars out of us. The first stop was a gift shop with typical junk you see all over. Cigar “factory” is a small business where he will try to sell his product at premium prices, or typical rum you buy all over but at 100% markup. We were passed to a different guide for the church who walked us around for maybe 10 minutes and forcibly took photos. Then was obviously not pleased with our 300 peso tip. The produce market is a nice look at a piece of local culture. It’s nice having a local van to drive you in, seeing a very small cocao and coffee village is interesting. Just be wary. You paid for a tour, not to be taken to gift shops.”
“Unfortunately, this private tour was disappointing and very unorganized. Christopher and Jose arrived 45 minutes late, and after picking us up, we had to stop for gas. From the start, it felt like the tour was being planned on the fly. The highlight was visiting the traditional Dominican family, which felt authentic and welcoming. However, the cigar factory was a long drive and did not live up to how Christopher described it or to similar experiences I’ve had elsewhere. Most concerning, Christopher, who was training Jose, took a nap during our return trip, and we ended up going the wrong way and were briefly lost. For a private tour, I expected much better preparation, organization, and professionalism. Given the late pickup and overall poor execution of the tour, I am requesting a refund.”

At the beginning of the tour he asked what we'd like to see so he could customize our experience and even when our minds changed in what we wanted to see he was flexible enough to pivot and meet our expectations.”
