“Went with group of 8 friends we arrived on our ATVs for a guided tour of the waterfall. I refused to go on the tour as they said I could only go by horseback. The horses are malnourished, exploited for human enjoyment. The horses are very small and not well cared for. One of our group is 300 lbs and chose to ride a small horse they put him on. I was adamant I would not ever ride a horse in this manner. I walked away so upset and cried, prayed for the horses. Our guide took my husband and I to a beautiful nearby beach where we spent the afternoon. Upon return, the men in the group all said it was horrible and they would never do it again and said I was completely right about the horrible treatment of the horses. Do the tour on foot ! This should not be allowed and animal welfare should be involved and these people should not be profiting from abusing these horses, Shame on this excursion company !”

“I booked a tour through XPO tours which wound up being Jhoraji touring company that included a visit to el limon and Samana. I knew horseback riding was involved and was excited for that! Well the trip was honestly horrible. The tour felt very disorganized with very little direction. The horses are completely emaciated which I only realized once riding it and realizing it seemed it was about to drop dead, I’m not even kidding. The guides follow behind the horses and use sticks to essentially switch them. They constantly push them to go faster and faster on steep and uneven terrain. They aren’t taken care of at all. It ruined the entire experience for me and made me feel sick that I supported this company and excursion in any way. There’s nothing I can do now and I’ve seen other reviews like this dating back 10+ years. It’s horrible. Someone could also be seriously injured if their horse did give out due to maltreatment with someone riding it. The waterfall was beautiful but it’s full of hidden rocks you can’t see under the water which again can injure you badly and nobody even tells you/makes you aware ahead of time. Please please please DO NOT SUPPORT. If you want to check out the falls you can walk yourself just be careful.”

“Do not ride the horses here. We witnessed them being beaten when their handlers grew impatient and felt they weren’t going fast enough. They’re covered in scars from being whipped and malnourished. It is not necessary to ride them- it’s a short, flat walk until the end (where you have to get off the horses anyway to do a series of steep stairs). The trail is covered in horse manure that becomes a layer in the rain. We were covered in it. There are crooks everywhere trying to scam money/take advantage of you. Someone led us back to the trail when we got lost and tried to demand 1000 pesos from me for spending 5 minutes with us. Truly, it was a horrible experience and not worth the money or headache. Avoid.”

“Waterfall was nice but the horses used to get us to the falls were overworked, malnourished, and abused. Some of the owners would beat their horse with a stick repeatedly to get ot to move faster. The scars were visible. Some horses had to carry extremely overweight people. It ruined the day for me. I don't recommend this place for its poor treatment of animals.”
